BrainUnlock

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 28, 2026

BrainUnlock ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of children and families who use our App. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When a parent or guardian creates an account, we collect an email address and password for authentication. This is managed through Firebase Authentication.

App Usage Data

We collect data about how the App is used — including challenge completion records, session times, and settings configured by parents. This data is stored securely in Firebase Firestore and is used solely to operate the App.

Children's Data (COPPA)

BrainUnlock is designed to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. All account creation and data input is performed by the parent or guardian. Children interact with the App only through the challenge interface, which does not collect personal information beyond what is required to record challenge completion.

Device Information

We may collect non-personal device information (OS version, device type) for the purpose of troubleshooting and improving App performance.

2. How We Use Your Information

We do not sell your data to third parties. Ever.

3. Push Notifications

With your permission, we send push notifications (via Apple Push Notification Service and Firebase Cloud Messaging) to alert parents when a child requests screen time or when a session ends. You can disable notifications at any time in your device Settings.

4. Screen Time & FamilyControls

BrainUnlock optionally requests access to Apple's Screen Time / FamilyControls framework to enable OS-level app blocking. This permission is granted by a parent and used solely to enforce the screen time limits set within the App. No Screen Time data is transmitted to our servers.

5. Data Sharing

We use the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy policy:

We do not share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties beyond those listed above.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing support@brainunlockapp.com.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS) and Firebase security rules to protect your data. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights (Including COPPA Parental Rights)

Parents and guardians have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@brainunlockapp.com. We will respond within 30 days. Depending on your location (including California residents under CCPA), additional rights may apply.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the App or the email on your account. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
